Senior Staff Attorney



Dana Shoenberg is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Center for Children’s Law and Policy (CCLP).  She worked in the Youth Law Center’s Washington, DC office from August, 2005, until that office closed and CCLP opened on April 1, 2006.  At both the Center for Children’s Law and Policy and the Youth Law Center she has worked on systems reform projects involving juvenile justice, disproportionate minority contacts with the juvenile justice system (DMC), conditions of confinement in juvenile detention facilities, child welfare, and education.  From 1998 to 2005, she served as a Trial Attorney and then Senior Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Special Litigation Section, where she investigated and sought remedies for patterns and practices of constitutional and other federal law violations in state and local juvenile detention facilities, jails, prisons, and police departments.  Prior to that, she held two clinical teaching fellowships, in the Family Law Clinic at the University of Baltimore School of Law from 1996 to 1998, and in the Criminal Justice Clinic at Georgetown University Law Center from 1994 to 1996.  Dana clerked for Judge Edward N. Cahn, then Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, from 1993 to 1994.  Prior to graduate school, Dana worked at Southern Home Services, a semi-private child welfare agency in Philadelphia, as an in-home family preservation worker for abused children and their families.  Dana received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1993, and her B.A. from Cornell University in 1989.  She also holds a Master’s degree in legal advocacy from the Georgetown University Law Center.
