CCLP works on the following projects. Click on the project name for more information.
Models for Change: Addressing Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) with the juvenile justice system, overrepresentation and racial and ethnic disparities affecting youth of color in the four Models for Change states (Pennsylvania, Illinois, Louisiana, Washington).
DMC Action Network: Developing strategic interventions to address DMC in eight sites in the four Models for Change states plus four additional sites; linking the Network sites with the juvenile justice field.
Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI): Ensuring safe and humane conditions in juvenile detention facilities in JDAI sites around the country through training, self-assessments, and monitoring; serving as the Foundations's lead consultants in detention reform initiatives in Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD.
Congress Project/JJDPA: Providing educational materials and support for Congressional offices working on reauthorization of the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.
Future Project: Developing a training and mentoring program for the next generation of expert consultants, attorneys, and practitioners in juvenile justice reform.
DC DYRS: Working with the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services to train staff on legal and professional standards regarding conditions of confinement, and helping to develop and train a community Advisory Board to review conditions regularly in DYRS facilities.
DMC/Travis County: Assisting the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department to analyze sources of DMC and develop alternatives to secure detention.
Improving Conditions of Confinement: Investigating and addressing reports of alleged abuse in juvenile facilities.
Removing Barriers to Education: Collaborating with children's advocates in Virginia to remove barriers to education stability for foster youth and youth in the juvenile justice system.
NDRN/Disability Rights: Working with the National Disability Rights Network and Protection and Advocacy programs around the country to protect the rights of disabled youth in the juvenile justice system.
Building Blocks for Youth: Maintaining the availability of material from a multi-strategy initiative to address DMC that published eleven major reports on the issue.
