Juvenile Crime
Despite the decline in juvenile crime over the past seven years,
polling shows that the American public still believes that juvenile
crime is on the increase and that schools are not safe. The media's
portrayal of youth violence is fueling the public's misperceptions and
resulting in more punitive policies for youth.
The "Fact Sheet" provides data on the reduction in juvenile crime and
polling information on the public's misperception of youth crime. The
"Key Studies" highlights major studies that document the reduction in
youth crime. The "Resources" list provide contact information for
obtaining youth crime data and national organizations conducting
