Marc Schindler graduated from Yale University and the University of Maryland School of Law. After law school he served as a public defender in Baltimore, MD, where he represented young people in delinquency proceedings. In 1996, he received the Cahill Award, presented annually to a public defender in Maryland. In 1997, he joined the Youth Law Center as a staff attorney. He worked on a variety of projects, including Building Blocks for Youth, the Center’s national initiative to reduce over-representation and racial and ethnic disparities affecting youth of color in the justice system. In January, 2005, he became the first General Counsel for the new District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services, which has responsibility for all detained and committed youth in the District. In June, 2006, he became Chief of Staff for the Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services.
